BBC Introducing
After impressing crowds at multiple sold out headline shows in Austria and a prodigious performance at Brighton’s Club NME, alternative quartet I Dream In Colour are generating quite the storm in their Indie-rock tea cup and the increasing press coverage they receive isconstantly sweetening the beverage. To date, the band has had coverage in the London Evening Standard, The Fly and Gym Class Magazine, as well as featuring on BBC 6’s Introducing with Tom Robinson. With impending appearances at Festifeel, the Camden Crawl and Brighton’s The Great Escape, this tirade of attention isn’t going to halt any time soon.
I Dream In Colour’s debut EP ‘The Boiler Room’ released by Monotwin Records is produced by Iain Gore (Libertines, Mystery Jets, Glasvegas) and is a short – but nonetheless monumental – example of what’s to come from the band in the future; swirling, intricate guitar twangs and rich, dynamic vocals courtesy of resplendentfrontman Richard Judge (who’s voice has already bared comparisons to the likes of Matt Bellamy and Jeff Buckley) and melodic, adept song writing that’s sure to win them many a fan in both the alt-hipster and mainstream crowds. The band cites an eclectic set of influences, from Radiohead to Talking Heads to The Beatles, yet the resulting sound is fluent, original and assured. Opening track ‘Get Along’ with its marching tempo and delicate, almost western-feel guitar is an absolute delight and is so captivating with its rhetorical lyrics that it immediately demands repeated listens. The epically beautiful ‘I Won’t Let You Down’ follows with twirling string arrangements, subtle guitar accompaniment and yet more vocal conviction akin to the more tentative side of Muse’s back catalogue. ‘Reigns’ is a thudding, upbeat anthem, littered with underlying high-hat taps and is topped with a charming, harmonious chorus. EP closer ‘The Boiler Room’ is lullaby-esque; it’s key lyric “You can’t break my heart” evoking emotional resonance yet the songs contrasting driving bass and kick drum would suggest that the heart-aches of life only further provoke I Dream In Colour’s drive to succeed.
‘The Boiler Room’ is an accomplished EP with a great deal of longevity from a band with the musical integrity, drive and media support to be the next darlings of the Indie scene. This is definitely not the last you’ve heard of I Dream In Colour. Their future awaits…
