“A nifty cross between Paramore and Bullet for my Valentine”

It’s hard to believe it but Milton Keynes based alt-rockers Lecarla have been a band for barely 9 months. In this short time, the band has already kicked up a torrential storm, impressing industry-types and music punters alike. Lecarla fought tough competition to win the Red Bull Bedroom Jam battle of the bands in March this year, have graced the pages of Kerrang! magazine and – amazingly -  already shared the stage with scene giants The Blackout, My Passion, Towers of London, Attack! Attack!, Go: Audio and We Are The Ocean. The band cite a vast range of influences including Fighstar, Killswitch Engage, Snow Patrol and Drum ‘n’ Bass; all of which equate the Lecarla sound; melodic female vocals courtesy of frontwoman Lizzy Dent in addition to charmingly accessible (but bloody ballsy!) riffs aplenty.

Lecarla’s most recent EP ‘Silent City’ opens with the instantly rememberable ‘DILLIGAF’, which less than a minute in releases guitar licks akin to contemporary British metal acts that unapologetically states “WE. MEAN. BUSINESS.” rendering any stereotypes - related to the fact that three of Lecarla’s members are female - obsolete. ‘Violation’ follows, comprising chugging kick drums capable of inciting even the most hardcore metal fan to headbang yet topped with an irresistibly anthemic chorus, equating mass appeal. ‘Obstacles And Runways’ continues the big chorus theme, beautifully contrasting between sounds both delicate and downright gritty. Epically instrumented ‘This Is The Interval’ closes the EP perfectly and is perhaps the most accessible of their tracks to date; deliciously pop with a metal injection and contrasting visceral growls courtesy of drummer Steve and is clearly going to be a future live favourite for fans.

Silent City’ is a small but accomplished example of what Lecarla are capable of. Consider the last 9 months their exciting pregnancy…we’re now days away from their imminent explosion out of the underground womb into mainstream consciousness.

FOR FANS OF: BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, FLYLEAF, THE BLACKOUT, KILL HANNAH.
